Yeah well that is what they say......but in my case...No news was driving me crazy!!!!! LOL
I had an appointment last week at my cardiologist's office to do an echocardiogram (http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/echocardiogram/MY00095) to see what the damage was to my heart. The tech told me it could take up to 48 hours to get a call with my results. He said (and I quote) "now if you get home and there is a message on the machine from the doc, that usually isn't good, but if you don't hear anything, well...no news is good news."
Ok, so I wait.....and wait....and then Monday at 1630 (4:30pm) rolls around and nothing, so I call. And this is how the conversation went down....
Me: Hi, this is Tiffany Williams and I had an echo done on Thursday. I was just wondering when to expect the results.
Nurse: Well if we don't call you, then it is good news.
Me: Ma'am, I am 32 and had a heart attack a few weeks ago. The echo was to see if there was any damage done and I have been kinda worried all weekend.
Nurse: If we didn't call you, then that is good. It means that the doc reviewed your echo and found everything to be good.
Now, don't get me wrong...I am OVER THE MOON THAT THERE SEEMS TO BE NO DAMAGE FROM MY HEART ATTACK, BUT A PHONE CALL TO STATE THIS WOULD HAVE MEANT THE WORLD TO ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL (I didn't say this to her but I wanted to.)
I guess I am being dramatic but this isn't your everyday lab/diagnostic study being done!
But this has taught me a lesson I won't forget....I need to remember my patients and their feelings and make sure to always follow up with them.
Now I am off to celebrate being damage free by cleaning the house....LOL

well I am GLAD there was "no news" but I'm the same way, b/c how do you KNOW for sure that they have already reviewed your chart??? It always drives me crazy when they do that to me. All my docs have in my file to call me regardless...heck I'm on Wellbutrin for anxiety...come on now people...work with me ;)
